It’s true that I’ve been keeping these dreamy images to myself for far too long… and today I’m so excited to finally share this beautiful Salt Flats elopement with you! Inspired by the natural colors + textures of the earth and sky, our vendor team pulled together a truly stunning evening for Lauren + Catherine.
Warm temps, gentle breeze, glowy light. Chicago was in rare form this October evening. Showing off, really!! I’ve lived here for going on eight years now, and still ooh and ahh at the beauty of this city. Lindsay and Bobby are Chicago residents moving to Nashville and before they embarked on a new journey, they wanted some sweet photos in the city where they fell in love.
Look up ‘bubbly’ in the dictionary and you’ll likely find a picture of Alex + Elijah. These two are so smiley, giggly and JOY-FILLED… photographing them left my cheeks sore from laughing so much! Combine their energy with glowy Northern California light, and you get magic.
Shortly after they met, Mike asked Kim on a date. They got frozen yogurt and walked her dog Lainey, and of course quickly fell in love!! In March 2020, Mike got down on one knee and proposed on a beautiful walk by Lake Michigan. It was unexpected and the happiest day!
Kim and Mike’s wedding vision was fairly simple – they dreamed of celebrating with those nearest and dearest to them. They wanted to look back and remember quality time with their favorite people, instead of going through the motions of a typical large wedding. For that reason, they decided to keep things small with 40 guests. This list included their two grandmas (100 and 95), and even their sweet pup made the trip!
Let me to tell you about Ariele + Jack!! These two are a Tinder success story. After matching and chatting online for weeks, they finally agreed to meet up when Ariele got home from her vacation in the UK. The first time they met, Jack picked Ariele up from the airport. Turns out her courage to get into a stranger’s car paid off, because these two are a perfect match!
Anyone who’s visited Charleston, or seen photos of the city, knows that it’s full of charm. There are endless gorgeous photo spots, making it one of my all-time favorite places to work!! From the dreamy Spanish Moss to the pastel colored buildings and lush blooms, it’s the most perfect combination. Pair that with a sweet couple like Haley Jane + Stephen, and you get pure magic!!
I’m sooo excited to recap Bespoke 2.0 for you all today! Lindsey and I shared the greatest honor of hosting 16 sweet, driven + talented photographers at our second workshop, this time at the Chicago History Museum! It was a jam-packed day of education centered around building successful wedding photography businesses, followed by a beautiful […]
This is one of the most common questions I get asked from other photographers! (It makes sense right… getting started is always the hardest part!) In today’s blog post, I’m sharing 3 tips for those who are interested in entering the world of wedding photography!
1. Start as an assistant, then second shoot.
The world of wedding photography is fast-paced and complex, and it takes time to learn the ins and outs. Unlike portrait sessions, there is no room for error on a wedding day. You don’t want to be learning for the first time, on the job!!
Booking work as an assistant or second shooter is an amazing place to start. Find a local photographer who you like and respect, who’s a step or two ahead of where you’d like to be. Offer to work for them for free, or help carry their gear. Put their needs + clients first, and be a sponge to absorb all the knowledge they have to share!
2. Practice with low-risk clients
Whether it’s family or a close friend, or someone who can’t afford a super experienced professional, booking low-risk clients at first helps alleviate some of the pressure of a wedding day.
My first wedding clients were college friends who I’d recently graduated with, who didn’t have huge budgets for their weddings. It was much more laidback working with people I knew, and it and allowed me to gain confidence all while building up my portfolio!!
3. Refine with education
It’s amazing what skills you can learn on the internet!!! From lighting to posing, marketing to pricing, there is loads of online education at your disposal. I recommend investing in a combination of digital courses as well as in-person workshops to build up your knowledge. Or, if you’re on a tight budget, YouTube is a great resource too!!
After their first date over tacos and beer, these two knew they were endgame!! As Katie + Brad graduated college and navigated life together, they always remained on the same page and their love grew stronger and stronger. In 2019, Brad planned a surprise proposal at Monet’s garden in Giverney, France… talk about a DREAM!!! Katie’s whole family was there to witness and celebrate the occasion!
