Lauren and Bill’s relationship started like so many do… they met through mutual friends. When they both found themselves single, Bill became persistent on asking Lauren out. She was hesitant at first, but ultimately gave him a chance (with her mom’s advice!!) Just like any fairytale story you’d see in the movies, the rest was history. Lauren says that Bill stole her heart before she even had a chance to realize she was falling in love. Swoon!
When it came to planning their couples’ session, they knew the perfect setting was Bill’s family’s yacht. Lauren and Bill spend their summers making memories on Lake Michigan, so it was only fitting! The evening started out laidback and romantic… we popped champagne, listened to music, and cruised serenely down the lake. Mother Nature had other plans for us though! As an unexpected storm rolled in, Bill had to captain us through crazy high winds!
Alexis + James themed their wedding around fairytales. Alexis’s great grandmother was born in Ireland and shared stories of fairies and magical meadows throughout her childhood. Alexis + her female relatives all have a magical intuition and knowingness that stems from her great grandmother. Through whimsical linens, pastel florals, sparkly bridesmaid dresses, and fairy centerpieces, Alexis found ways to bring her Irish Fairytale to life!

Warm temps, gentle breeze, glowy light. Chicago was in rare form this October evening. Showing off, really!! I’ve lived here for going on eight years now, and still ooh and ahh at the beauty of this city. Lindsay and Bobby are Chicago residents moving to Nashville and before they embarked on a new journey, they wanted some sweet photos in the city where they fell in love.
Let me to tell you about Ariele + Jack!! These two are a Tinder success story. After matching and chatting online for weeks, they finally agreed to meet up when Ariele got home from her vacation in the UK. The first time they met, Jack picked Ariele up from the airport. Turns out her courage to get into a stranger’s car paid off, because these two are a perfect match!

This is one of the most common questions I get asked from other photographers! (It makes sense right… getting started is always the hardest part!) In today’s blog post, I’m sharing 3 tips for those who are interested in entering the world of wedding photography!
1. Start as an assistant, then second shoot.
The world of wedding photography is fast-paced and complex, and it takes time to learn the ins and outs. Unlike portrait sessions, there is no room for error on a wedding day. You don’t want to be learning for the first time, on the job!!
Booking work as an assistant or second shooter is an amazing place to start. Find a local photographer who you like and respect, who’s a step or two ahead of where you’d like to be. Offer to work for them for free, or help carry their gear. Put their needs + clients first, and be a sponge to absorb all the knowledge they have to share!
2. Practice with low-risk clients
Whether it’s family or a close friend, or someone who can’t afford a super experienced professional, booking low-risk clients at first helps alleviate some of the pressure of a wedding day.
My first wedding clients were college friends who I’d recently graduated with, who didn’t have huge budgets for their weddings. It was much more laidback working with people I knew, and it and allowed me to gain confidence all while building up my portfolio!!
3. Refine with education
It’s amazing what skills you can learn on the internet!!! From lighting to posing, marketing to pricing, there is loads of online education at your disposal. I recommend investing in a combination of digital courses as well as in-person workshops to build up your knowledge. Or, if you’re on a tight budget, YouTube is a great resource too!!
After their first date over tacos and beer, these two knew they were endgame!! As Katie + Brad graduated college and navigated life together, they always remained on the same page and their love grew stronger and stronger. In 2019, Brad planned a surprise proposal at Monet’s garden in Giverney, France… talk about a DREAM!!! Katie’s whole family was there to witness and celebrate the occasion!
From prom dates to husband and wife, Julianna and Mitch have a classic high school sweethearts type love story!! These two have been together for TEN YEARS… so when Mitch proposed around the holidays in 2018, it was an instant, no-brainer YES for Julianna! These two have so much in common. They’re from the same home town, they both love ice cream + traveling, oh! And they even share the same birthday!!!
